Technical details on the preparation of this site.

Most of the information on this site was taken from the Regimental History with additional information from other publications. Although checked carefully, all the errors are likely to be mine. If you see any errors, please email me straight away and I shall be glad to correct things. The Regimental History in two volumes was scanned and the resulting images processed through Textbridge OCR software. The output files are edited, a process that takes quite a while. The Textbridge OCR software is good in that most text is recognised error free, the trouble is the book was printed at a time when an I was used as a 1, o for 0 etc. It means that "11.15" comes out as ii.i5 etc. Some automation of the editing is possible but most of the time it is done "by eye". One problem is that Corps numbers are given as "II Corps" so automating the replacement of all II with 11 is not a good idea as this would yield "11 Corps". You may see some of these OCR errors in the text but mostly the actual value is obvious.
